Wierded…

On Friday 19 June, I had an idea. On Saturday I had another, and another on Sunday. I talked of nothing else all weekend to hubby, my sister, anyone else who would listen. They loved it…

On Monday I went to work as usual, although quietly, surreptitiously, during my lunch break (of course!), I searched the interwebs to see if anyone else had my brand name or my idea. They didn’t. I drafted a quick business overview.

On Tuesday, I was made redundant.

It was like I was on another planet as I watched the Marketing and HR Managers and outplacement agency rep talk me through it all as delicately as they could. All I could see was the payout figure… I was going to make my dream come true!

I couldn’t get hold of hubby straight away, so I rang another dear friend. “How do you feel?”, he asked. “Weirded” was my reply – like the universe had all aligned just to make this happen. With the universe behind me, I couldn’t possibly fail.

And so 10 years of loyalty, dedication, hard work and a promising career in corporate marketing came to an end, and I couldn’t have been happier (although it was a BIG shock – and it was very hard handing over the keys to the company car). Of course the actual leaving day still brought tears as we gathered for a final farewell lunch, and although my original plan was to spend the evening with hubby drowning my sorrows and drinking toasts to the future, the night was, in fact, spent in Emergency getting five stitches in munchkin’s face, as yet again, his legs were not as fast as the rest of him. His scar will remind me of that day forever.

And so begins a new life and a new business…

First step – Mum Days.
