Visit the Library

There is a saying, “garbage in = garbage out”. I’m sure you’ve heard it before…

To generate good ideas, you need to have something to base them on. If you’re feeling flat and uncreative, there’s a good chance you’re near the end of your input supply and in need of some fresh inspiration.

So visit your library, preferably during your lunch break. Time constraints will ensure that you don’t think too hard about your choices. Just wander around the non-fiction section and pick up a few things that catch your eye. Let the universe guide you. Take them back to the office and peruse for half an hour or so, while you eat your lunch. If they’re any good, you can read further on at home, on the train etc.

Don’t limit yourself to business type books or areas relating directly to your work. You may find the inspiration you need in the nature, art, history or travel sections (but don’t limit yourself to these either).

If you’re not a member yet, just remember to allow 10-15 minutes to sign up or your boss won’t be overly supportive of your efforts.
